COMPETENCE APPROACH TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF POLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND

Abstract

There has been determined that educational systems of modern developed countries give preference to a competent approach to the professional development of teachers and to creating effective mechanisms for its implementation. As the notion of «competence approach» researchers understand the focus of the educational process on the formation and development of key (basic, main) and substantive competences of the individual. Competence approach directs education to the formation of a whole set of competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes, etc.), which must be mastered by teachers in the process of professional activity.

The key competences of the Polish language teacher in the Republic of Poland are distinguished as such: methodical, didactic; psychological and pedagogical; diagnostic communication, medial, technical, as well as competencies in the field of planning and design. A competent teacher is able to provide intellectual, social and personal development of students, to apply accessible teaching programs, methods and techniques, to encourage students to develop critical thinking, use motivational mechanisms, verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, etc.

It is proved that the acquisition of vital competencies allows the teacher to navigate freely and correctly in the modern information society and respond adequately to the dynamics of changes in the competitive labor market. In the light of such combination of core competences, the task of the Polish language teacher is the developing young people’s lifelong learning skills, the continuous acquisition of new knowledge and skills, the independent use of information and communication tools, cooperation with others, and solving life problems.
