CONTENT ANALYSIS OF M. KNOWLES' ANDRAGOGICAL MODEL AND EXPEDIENCY OF ITS USE IN MODERN PRACTICE OF ADULT TEACHING

Abstract

The article deals with a direct correlation between the level of economy, the social sphere, and the literacy of society. It is proved that motivated acquisition of and continuous updating knowledge becomes an essential factor in the competitiveness of any organization. A number of dynamising personal, social, organizational and economic factors determines transformations in lives and careers of individuals, and at the same time they affect the significance of educational process. Currently, being an employee requires constant development and self-improvement. Learning is both a significant part of and the factor determining the activity of a person. It is a necessary condition of professional adaptation, flexibility, effectiveness and competitiveness on the today’s labour market. The constructs of the procedural andragogical model by M. Knowles were analyzed. The complex of the constructs is visualized in three dimensions: Goals and Purposes for Learning; Individual and Situational Differences; Core Adult Learning Principles. The goals of learning presented in the model are defined by three main categories of development (institutional, social, and individual). The model circles are interconnected, that enables to holistically perceive the three-dimensional process of adult learning and understand its peculiarities. The core differences of M. Knowles' andragogical model of teaching have been presented, which primarily consist in the active involvement of students at all stages of study. It is substantiated that, in practice, the combination of these goals as well as adherence to the andragogical principles presented in the model ensure success in modern corporate training conditions. In the conclusions, the author emphasizes that in practice any theoretical models are not able to fully reflect the adult education realia, since the practice of adult education is always richer and less clear than its theoretical models.
