ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF ANDRAGOGIC RESEARCH: IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE
Abstract
The article substantiates the importance of the reliability and accuracy of research in the field of adult education, the role of which is growing significantly in the conditions of the information society. The author presents his point of view according to the appropriate algorithm, in particular, the expediency of paying attention to adult education is proven (the economic crisis, demographic changes, massive migration processes have determined the need of acquiring new skills to increase competitiveness, employment, social inclusion and active citizenship); the immediate importance of accuracy and reliability in the context of andragogic research is revealed (the concept of accuracy, reliability, credibility and validity in the context of andragogic research is specified); comprehensiveness and completeness are defined as a guarantee of trust in andragogical research (the obligation to consider a set of criteria, in particular, in addition to quantitative indicators, it is necessary to take into account the availability of trained pedagogical staff, the level of interest of educational authorities, city authorities in these issues, etc.); the relationship between the accuracy of the terms used and the reliability of andragogic studies was revealed (there was analyzed the content of the terms most frequently used in andragogical studies, but not always correctly translated, that creates dissonance in the perception of research results and making important decisions in the future), and a set of factors that must be taken into account during andragogic studies was clarified (forms of education recognized by UNESCO in which adults participate, age categories of adults participating in different types of educational activities, type of statistics by which data collection was carried out). Reliability and validity of andragogic studies are extremely important both at the theoretical and practical levels, as their results enable the formulation of accurate scientific forecasts and directions for the development of educational policy and social practice.
