THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES OF NON-FORMAL ADULT EDUCATION IN UKRAINE
Abstract
The theoretical principles and peculiarities of non-formal adult education are considered in the article. Unlike formal education, which is rather conservative and requires a lot of time and effort to rebuilding and change, non-formal education, as a mechanism and as an educational tool, is much more dynamic, since it involves invariance, and responds quickly to the society demands as a whole and every person in particular. Non-formal education enables to solve both short-term tasks, and to form outlook and personal knowledge for a long-term perspective. Apart from the fact that non-formal adult education is designed to maintain the social and educational competence of adults at the appropriate level, it can also provide effective psychological and pedagogical support to people who find themselves in a difficult, crisis life situation.
The trends and laws are revealed: creation of a united European educational space; human-centered paradigm of the educational process; unification and standardization of all educational approaches; creating conditions for education throughout life. The main characteristics of non-formal education are outlined: organization and appropriate support, specific learning goals aimed at general increase of intellectual, cognitive and creative activity; geographical availability; non-limitation in time; absence of official documentary certificates; flexibility; innovative teaching methods. It is revealed that the fundamental principles of non-formal education are availability and voluntariness. Basic principles of non-formal education: learn in action, learn to interact, learn to study.
